Shipping Forklift Operator

Join our team and take on a challenging and rewarding role operating a diesel-powered industrial truck with lifting devices such as a forklift to push, pull, lift, stack, tier, or move products, equipment, or materials.

Schedule

40 hours per week | Monday - Friday with occasional Saturdays | Rotating shift (2 weeks of days - 2 weeks of nights).

Responsibilities

  • Safely operate a lift to keep lumber moved to and from work areas at all times.
  • Communicate with your Supervisor and maintenance personnel to keep advised of equipment, flow production, or quality issues.
  • Fill out daily PM checklist and keep forklift clean.
  • Maintain accurate rough shed inventory.
  • Maintain clean workstations and demonstrate good housekeeping behaviors.
  • Keep staging area clean and pile bottoms straight.
  • Operate equipment to maintain full production pace, quality, safety, and uptime.
  • Demonstrate team player skills in working with co-workers and Supervisors.
  • Have good performance, safety, and attendance records.
  • Demonstrate ability to work safely with and properly care for tools and equipment.
  • Perform entry-level lumberyard duties, housekeeping duties, including use of a shovel, ground keeping, painting, janitorial, etc.
  • Stack various lengths of lumber.
  • Work indoors and outdoors, regardless of weather conditions.
  • Monitor lumber movement and ensure no lumber cross-ups.
  • Clear jammed lumber as necessary.
  • Assist others as needed.
  • Perform quality checks and safety observations.
  • Follow all Safe Work Procedures and Zero Energy State procedures.
  • Utilize downtime or slow time to enhance the appearance and productivity of the department.
  • Perform all job assignments in an effective and timely manner with minimal supervision.
  • Operate necessary equipment according to procedures.
  • Monitor assigned area and related areas visually and via monitor screen.
  • Remove or straighten out cross-ups using pike pole or picaroon.
  • Inspect equipment and perform servicing and minor adjustments when necessary.
  • Assist maintenance with servicing of equipment.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and daily greasing of necessary equipment.
  • Document and report results.
  • Willingness to work overtime, odd hours, weekends, holidays, and other shifts as required.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum age of 18 years.
  • Some mechanical knowledge to identify issues with equipment.
  • Ability to add, subtract, and perform general math.
  • Completed or able to complete forklift operation training.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Ability to identify and communicate potential problems and work toward solutions.
  • Physically capable of performing job duties.
  • Knowledge of general lockout procedures and safe behaviors.
  • Willingness to perform other duties or positions as requested by supervisor.

  • Ability to make quality control checks and adjustments at assigned areas or related equipment.
  • Ability to keep the department clean and meet housekeeping standards.
  • Willingness and ability to learn basic computer-related operating skills.
  • Willing to train others within the department or related equipment.
  • Willing to cross-train on other equipment.
