About the role
The Shipping Clerk plays a critical role in ensuring the efficient and accurate processing of outgoing shipments within a warehouse or distribution center. This position is responsible for coordinating the preparation, packaging, and dispatch of orders to meet customer requirements and delivery schedules. The Shipping Clerk will manage inventory movement by utilizing various warehouse equipment and technology to maintain accuracy and safety.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and process shipping documents including bills of lading, packing lists, and shipping labels.
- Operate warehouse equipment such as electric pallet jacks and pallet jacks to move goods safely and efficiently.
- Use RF scanners and bar code technology to accurately track and record inventory movement and order fulfillment.
- Cook up with receiving and inventory teams to ensure orders are picked, packed, and shipped correctly and on time.
- Inspect outgoing shipments for accuracy, quality, and compliance with shipping standards and customer specifications.
- Maintain a clean and organized shipping area to promote safety and efficiency.
- Communicate with carriers and logistics providers to schedule pickups and resolve shipping issues.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience in a warehouse or shipping/receiving environment.
- Proficiency in operating electric pallet jacks, pallet jacks, and RF scanners.
- Basic knowledge of bar code scanning and order picking processes.
- Ability to lift and move heavy objects safely and follow safety protocols.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience with shipping software or warehouse management systems (WMS).
- Familiarity with OSHA safety standards and compliance.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Forklift certification or experience operating other warehouse machinery.
