About the role

Pierce Manufacturing builds trucks that protect people and communities around the world. The company has evolved from building truck bodies on Model T Ford chassis in 1913 to creating highly customized, carefully designed, and engineered pumpers, aerials, tankers, and rescue units. The role of Material Handler I is an entry-level position that involves performing general labor work and non-skilled tasks, including manual work such as picking parts.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate verbally with co-workers to keep a safe working environment
  • Follow written and verbal instructions to complete tasks
  • Review inventory paperwork
  • Lift light and/or heavy parts on and off a cart, floor, shelf, etc.
  • Use a cart to push/pull equipment and parts to and from designated areas
  • Operate a forklift/tow motor to transport parts safely
  • Assist in tracking and recording inventory of various parts
  • Keep areas stocked with the correct parts and supplies
  • Assist co-workers with heavy lifting of parts
  • Understand the differences in parts and tools
  • Sweep and clean work area
  • Work required hours and have excellent attendance record
  • Work overtime as needed
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment

Requirements

  • Previous experience within a manufacturing or operational environment (preferred)
  • Experience with inventory control systems and/or RF scanners (preferred)
  • Forklift Certified (preferred)

  • Ability to maintain balance when walking and standing on potential slippery work floor while pushing a cart with equipment/parts
  • Ability to maintain balance when climbing on a portable step or ladders to retrieve parts
  • Ability to use a computer to track down parts if necessary
  • Ability to individually lift and manipulate parts/equipment weighing up to 75 pounds
  • Ability to tolerate constant standing and walking throughout the shift
  • Ability to use both hands for tool operation, carrying of parts, and assisting co-workers with heavy lifting of parts
  • Ability to climb in and out of forklift/ tow motor safely
  • Ability to demonstrate strength and physical stamina to complete the tasks safely
  • Ability to remember task sequence and safety constraints

Schedule

This role works 2nd Shift, from Noon-10:00pm, Monday-Thursday.
