About the role

The Shipping and Receiving Specialist is responsible for receiving, storing, and shipping inventory. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in shipping and receiving, including experience with Oracle. This is a hands-on position requiring the ability to work effectively under strict time constraints in a dynamic environment. The role demands strong attention to detail, high organization, and excellent communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct shipping (domestic/international) and receiving functions timely and accurately.
  • Ensure materials are received from proper vendors, placed in correct inventory locations, and finished goods are packaged according to specification and shipped in a timely manner.
  • Review receipt of all materials to verify purchase orders are open and the quality of materials received is correct (e.g., materials certificates, First Article Inspection documents).
  • Validate, fill, and file packing slips and material certification documents accurately.
  • Examine contents and compare with shipping requests to verify accuracy of outgoing shipments.
  • Determine shipping methods using knowledge of shipping procedures, routes, and rates.
  • Contact carrier representatives to arrange shipping and delivery of materials.
  • Create and ensure Commercial Invoices for all cross-border shipments are filled and filed accurately.
  • Unpack and check goods received against purchase orders or invoices; maintain records and reject unsatisfactory items.
  • Examine stock and distribute materials in inventory and on manufacturing lines.
  • Follow all company and facility policies, including quality, safety, conduct, and attendance.
  • Pick orders for shipping with support staff.
  • Ensure security, accuracy, and accountability of materials and goods with inventory control.
  • Measure, weigh, and record shipment data such as weight and dimensions.
  • Establish and modify operational methods and procedures.
  • Monitor shipping and receiving key process indicators.
  • Maintain documentation to reflect the effectiveness and efficiency of department activities.
  • Perform physical or administrative tasks involved in receiving, storing, and distributing metals and purchased parts; assist with material handling duties.
  • Operate a forklift (standing, sitting rider) and hand pallet jack; lift heavy items.
  • Coordinate with the production team to ensure inventory availability based on orders.
  • Report and document shipment damages, freight discrepancies, or issues for investigation and record-keeping.
  • Assist with inventory counts of finished goods as needed.
  • Ensure all shipping and receiving Oracle transactions are performed timely and accurately (quality control).
  • Conduct inventory counts.
  • Load and unload materials from trucks.
  • Deliver or route materials to departments using a forklift or pallet jack.
  • Ensure all shipments comply with EHS policies; report suspicious materials to the onsite Safety team immediately.
  • Palletize and prep material; create packaging if needed.
  • Maintain records such as Inbound and Outbound Logs; prepare related reports.
  • Work overtime when necessary.
  • Proactively practice warehouse safety rules and participate in 5S and continuous improvement activities.
  • Complete all required training for the position in a timely manner.
  • Perform other shipping, receiving, and inventory control duties as assigned by the Supervisor/Manager.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of experience in Shipping/Receiving or Warehouse Operations.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Data entry experience.
  • Oracle experience is a plus.
  • Experience with forklifts and pallet jacks.
  • Working knowledge of domestic and international shipping documentation.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to follow through on shipping issues.
  • Team-oriented with a strong sense of urgency for deliverables.
  • Flexibility in a rapidly changing, dynamic work environment.
  • Working knowledge of FedEx online software.
  • General understanding of warehouse practices.
  • Ability to prioritize and execute multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Participation in 5S, continuous improvement, and safety activities.

Pay

Annual salary range: $47,840 - $52,000 ($23 - $25/hour).
