Shipping and Receiving Specialist

About the role

This position coordinates the movement of customer materials from suppliers through our Service Center Network.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates, schedules, and dispatches all service requirements from local pickups through deliveries.
  • Serves as the direct liaison between dock operations and internal/external customers.
  • Tracks, inputs data, and reports information to external and internal customers.
  • Handles inter-company and intra-company communication.
  • Works with the planning group on coordinating facility outbound volume.
  • Provides customer service to internal and external customers.
  • Prepares all inbound and outbound documentation.
  • Performs additional clerical duties as assigned.
  • Validates and verifies materials on dock, including labeling, pulling packing slips, moving boxes, and opening boxes.
  • Generates reports providing Dock Coordinators with critical shipping information.
  • May oversee loading activities (varies by center).

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED; associate degree from a two-year college or university preferred but not required.
  • One to two years of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups or managers, clients, customers, and the public.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to read and write in English (bilingual English/Spanish is desired in some centers).
  • Knowledge of database software, internet software, inventory software, order processing systems, spreadsheet software, and word processing software.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to sit, use hands to type, handle, or feel, and talk.
  • Frequently required to reach with hands and arms.
  • Regularly required to stand or walk.
  • May occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision.
  • Must be able to hear to perform essential job functions.

Work Environment

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
