Responsibilities
- Communicate effectively with carriers and other contacts regarding the inbound and outbound movements of their product.
- Maintain a full understanding of how to enter product into the WMS, how product is stored, and how it is shipped out of the facility.
- Engage with drivers, verify driver identification, assign dock doors, and check drivers in and out.
- Know product locations within the warehouse to effectively assign dock doors.
- Communicate any issues to the warehouse so they can plan accordingly.
- Accurately enter data into the system from carrier/customer paperwork to properly process inbounds.
- Generate bill documentation, ensure the carrier reviews the paperwork, and confirm the driver has all correct paperwork for the load with the correct destination.
- Report overages, shortages, defective materials, or questionable conditions as per customer requirements to the department supervisor and note on carrier/customer documentation.
- Record all necessary information regarding appointments, including driver’s paperwork, seal, trailer number, etc.
- Act as the final checkpoint for order completion and accuracy prior to releasing the driver.
- Identify extra charges for pallets, overtime, labor, etc., and collect appropriate charges from the driver.
- Assist Customer Accounts with posting inbound and outbound shipments.
- Maintain professional relationships with carriers and customers.
- Act as a Welcome Center Associate and Security Guard when needed, including overseeing check-in/check-out processes, trailer verification, yard checks, and sealed trailer verification.
- Work effectively outside to communicate with drivers.
- Maintain a professional demeanor in appearance and communications at all times.
- Participate in staff and/or customer meetings as required.
- Take initiative to prevent non-conformities related to product, process, and quality systems.
- Identify and report any issues related to product, processes, and/or quality, and propose solutions through appropriate channels.
- Follow posted security procedures at all times while in the building.
- Participate in safety and educational training programs.
Requirements
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- Customer service-oriented with experience interpreting packing slips.
- Familiarity with using a WMS to process and track the flow of goods in and out of the warehouse.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Use hands to handle objects, tools, or controls.
- Strong attention to detail and effective communication skills.
- Essential vision and hearing for safety and productivity.
- Operate scanners, tablets, radios, phones, computers, and other warehouse equipment.
- May require physical effort, including lifting, using stairs, and accessing information via computer.
- Ability to work additional hours as requested by management.
- Operate a registered motor vehicle if part of daily tasks.
- Engage in frequent personal interaction and communication.
- Strong arithmetic and reading skills.
- Follow verbal and written instructions, as well as company policies.
- Be a self-starter, able to work independently and coordinate with others.
- Thrive in a fast-paced environment, managing stress and meeting productivity guidelines.
