About the role

This role requires the identification, safe handling, and accurate storage and placement of product following inspection. The operator must coordinate with Quality Assurance technicians to allow for timely movement of production into inventory after inspection. Knowledge of yard layout, products, production levels, and forklift operation is essential. The role also involves developing skills for assessing load parameters to ensure safe, accurate, and efficient placement of finished product on flatbed trailers for maximum loading while maintaining stable transport properties.

Individuals will assist other shipping personnel with load preparation, inventory counts, inventory status assessment, unloading raw materials, and other duties as required by the Shipping Supervisor.

Responsibilities

• Comply with all Company policies and procedures.
• Follow all safety rules in the yard, including safety regulations for truck drivers loading and unloading, and forklift operation.
• Identify every product that leaves production and, following proper inspection, transport it to the appropriate storage location in the yard.
• Maintain inventory organization and packaging and storage integrity in preparation for shipment.
• Assemble partial units for Shipping Operator A & B as needed.
• Ensure shipments contain no damaged or sub-standard product and no improperly assembled units.
• Repair broken or incomplete units.
• Operate forklifts safely and prevent damage to product and other assets.
• Develop skills in loading product on transport vehicles.
• Operate handheld computers and use established procedures for inventory, loading, and scrapping.
• Maintain constant contact with Supervisor and Shipping team regarding shipping priorities and progress.
• Keep the yard clear of debris.
• Assist other shipping and plant personnel as needed.
• Perform daily inspections and maintenance checks on equipment.
• Follow safe work habits, exhibit a positive attitude, and focus on company goals.
• Provide input at shift meetings concerning goals, problems, and accomplishments.

• Proficiency in all aspects of the job.
• Ability to maintain a personal sense of urgency and perform at optimum levels at all times.
• Safe work record with consistent adherence to safety procedures.
• Meet the company’s attendance requirements as stipulated on skill tests for promotion consideration.
• Pass a mandatory background check.

Qualifications

• Previous forklift experience is preferred.

Physical demands

• Regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; climb or balance; and talk or hear.
• Frequently required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms.
• Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and taste or smell.
• Must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Work environment

• Regularly exposed to moving vehicles, including forklifts and tractor-trailers, in the yard.
• Work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Exposed to fumes or airborne particles and vibration.

Pay

Compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US markets. The pay range is based on relevant market data in our lowest and highest geographic markets. Pay is determined by several factors including market location, job-related knowledge, experience, and skillset. Depending on the position, sign-on payments and other forms of compensation may be offered as part of a total compensation package.
