Responsibilities

  • Store and retrieve goods in the storage area, rotating stock so oldest materials are used first.
  • Note and report any damaged cartons, crates, or containers.
  • Record items added or removed from inventory.
  • Prepare products for shipment by retrieving designated product and ensuring proper loading and sealing.
  • Use an industrial forklift and handheld scan gun/RFGEN for lot tracking to maintain accurate inventory.
  • Operate a forklift to pick up, move, load, and unload product on or from trailers following department, facility, company, and regulatory guidelines.
  • Perform minor equipment service and complete written daily safety inspections.
  • Identify and report noted problems to supervisor for further inspection and repair.
  • Change batteries or fuel bottles, refuel forklift, or troubleshoot repairs as needed.
  • Maintain work area, dock, and equipment in a clean and orderly condition, adhering to storage design principles, and recommend improvements.
  • Create product labels for inventory purposes.
  • Read and understand lot numbers, expiration dates, ingredient lists, and production schedules.
  • Complete various reports daily and enter required information into the computer program efficiently and timely.
  • Use basic tools such as wrenches, tape measures, scales, air, and water hoses.
  • Consolidate partial pallets as directed by production supervisor.
  • Maneuver forklift in tight spaces while maintaining a safe work zone for other drivers and team members.
  • Participate as a team member in ongoing development, communication, and implementation of team concepts, programs, and policies.
  • Attend team meetings and foster strong cohesiveness regarding major issues such as direction, annual plan, budget, and policy changes.
  • Identify areas lacking cohesiveness, bring them to the attention of the team leader, and work to resolve issues.
  • Understand Simmons' established operating systems (e.g., quality, security, office environment, company policies) and maintain familiarity with them.
  • Perform other duties as necessary in support of business objectives.

Requirements

  • Must be able to climb on and off the forklift and safely back it up, requiring turning neck and body in the opposite direction.
  • Must be able to lift and stack up to 75 lbs from floor to crown.
  • Must be able to work in extreme temperatures (hot and cold), wet, dry, and dusty environments.
  • Must be able to sit and walk for long periods of time and lift up to 75 pounds multiple times daily.
  • Wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): safety glasses, rubber gloves, rubber boots, rubber apron, hearing protection, and any other PPE as required.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Perform basic math.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a company-issued forklift license.
  • Must be able to read, write, and understand English.

Skills

  • Knowledge of the Julian calendar and FIFO practices.
  • Preferred experience in shipping and receiving and working with large moving equipment.
  • Basic computer literacy.
  • Knowledge of military time, RFGEN, and JDE.
