About the role
Manually moves freight, stock, or other materials. Loads finished goods onto trucks. Understands all documents pertaining to storage, setting up and load. Maintains housekeeping in areas, observes all safety rules to company standards. Understands and participates in accurate department inventory and product staging procedures. Responsible for checking proper identification of material being shipped by size, gauge, length, count and quality. Operates various forklifts, flat bed trucks and a variety of hand tools. Associate will also be expected to pick orders, manage inventory within a database and create BOLs (bills of lading).
Responsibilities
- Load product per shipping orders and pick sheet
- Operate various equipment including forklift, flat bed trucks (yard dogs) and hand tools
- Report any unsafe conditions to supervisor
- Handle scrap from all departments as required and control the flow of scrap trailers
- Assist with cycle counts and material handling moves from staging to storage monthly
- Prepping poles for finisher (installing pole caps, throwing dunnage, nailing blocks, banding loads, banding pallets of goods, shrink wrapping pallets, installing barcode tags, etc.)
- Installing access covers for Bridge product and rivnuts
- Perform daily forklift and truck safety/inspection checks as required
- Work either independently and/or in a team environment
Requirements
- Ability to accurately read tape measures
- Ability to stand 90% of time
- Able to work outside in extreme heat or cold
- Able to operate forklifts, flat bed trucks and hand tools
- Must be accurate in logging inventory transactions in a variety of formats
- The ability to work overtime when required for business needs
- Must be forklift certified by the company
- Be able to work in fast paced high volume environment
- Able to read and write and have good basic math skills
- Must be able to communicate well with others
- Must be able to back up yard truck with a 40' - 50' trailer on
- Must be able to identify product size and gauge
- Must be able to understand and follow division standard loading procedures and have a knowledge of loading materials, various types of trailers, accurately filling out pick sheets, creating pole lists, logging shop orders and shipping orders
Qualifications
- No prior experience needed
- Computer software used: Outlook, Workforce, IFS, TMS, Excel
Decision Making
- Identify proper loading as per loading instructions
- Identify quality problems and bring to attention of supervisor
- Resolve identification problems and equipment problems and notify supervisor
- Must stage trailers with easy access to material being loaded
- Ensure proper safety precautions are used during loading
Working Conditions
- Performed exclusively in an outdoor environment
- Temperature range can vary
- May expose associate to disagreeable working conditions (wind, cold, heat, dust, dirt, fumes, noise, vibration, water, or oil)
- Exposure to grease, loud noises, and outside elements occurs continually or regularly
- Extreme care should be taken to prevent damage to equipment or department personnel
- Safety glasses, hearing protection, and metatarsal safety shoes must be worn at all times, where appropriate
- Must be able to spend entire work shift on feet within the shop environment
- Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE)
