This position is for a families with children shelter located at Echo Place, Bronx, NY 10457.

About the role

The Shift Supervisor provides direct supervision of staff and ensures the safety and well-being of shelter residents. Responsibilities include staff coordination, fire safety compliance, administrative duties, and client support.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct ongoing individual supervisory meetings, building inspections, and provide feedback on job performance.
  • Coordinate work schedules, timesheets, time-off requests, and work assignments.
  • Evaluate paperwork and documentation, including Security Log and Maintenance Work Order Log books.
  • Coordinate security and maintenance staff training, development, and evaluation.
  • Fulfill duties of residential aides and/or custodial personnel in their absence as needed.
  • Maintain fire safety by coordinating the Fire Safety plan and training all staff on procedures and building evacuation.
  • Coordinate monthly fire drills and maintain fire drill logs.
  • Perform periodic building inspections for fire safety hazards or violations, and ensure all fire prevention systems (centralized fire alarm panel, sprinkler system, smoke detectors, fire extinguishers) are functional.
  • Coordinate servicing and document inspections of all fire safety equipment.
  • Provide new program clients with written fire safety and prevention information.
  • Complete administrative duties, including transfer paperwork, intakes with new clients, incident reports, visitor logs, vehicle sign-out sheets, and roster maintenance in CARES.
  • Maintain mail logs and handle email correspondence.
  • Establish and maintain appropriate staff/client boundaries and direct clients to the appropriate staff or department for their needs.
  • Communicate incidents and client observations to Facility Manager, Case Managers, Senior Case Managers, Director of Social Services, and Program Director as needed.
  • Assist with new family arrivals, apartment turnovers, intakes, and program orientation.
  • Monitor client behavior to ensure compliance with House Rules, Program Policies, and Procedures.
  • Monitor facility interior and exterior to ensure client safety, prevent damage/theft of agency property, and prevent emergencies.
  • Clean program areas after or before usage as needed.
  • Assist with move-outs, curfew violators, and new residents.
  • Complete intakes with new residents.
  • Provide guidance to clients on proper upkeep of living quarters, personal hygiene, grooming, attire, meal attendance, and participation in support service activities.
  • Maintain, prepare, and distribute hygiene supplies, donations, and living supplies to clients.
  • Drive program vehicle to transport shelter residents to appointments, housing interviews, job interviews, training sites, and partnering organizations as assigned.
  • Conduct periodic building and grounds inspections and report findings to the facility manager.
  • Respond to crisis and emergency situations and contact appropriate authorities as needed.
  • Participate in ongoing individual supervision, team meetings, and trainings.
  • Adhere to on-call system for crisis intervention, emergencies, and situations requiring immediate action.
  • Maintain CPR/First Aid Certification.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 2+ years of experience in Security or Building Maintenance.
  • Ability to provide crisis intervention using strong interpersonal skills with a high level of maturity and responsibility.
  • Experience in office management and/or staff supervision.
  • Experience working in a large residential/institutional setting with a special needs population.
  • Strong writing, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • F-80 (Certificate of Fitness for Coordinator of Fire Safety and Alarm Systems) required within 6 months of employment.

Qualifications

  • NYS Driver’s License preferred.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.

Schedule

  • A work schedule that includes weekend and evening hours is required.
  • Additional shifts may be required as needed.

Pay

Annual salary range: $40,000.00 – $43,368.00.
