Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary supervisor of shelter operations, ensuring all activities adhere to established rules and guidelines.
- Conduct regular safety checks, including fire drills and substance use screenings, to maintain a safe and secure environment.
- Manage the daily schedule of shelter activities, coordinating client services and events to ensure they proceed as planned.
- Oversee client appointments by reviewing schedules, dispatching vehicles, distributing carfare, and assigning escorts as necessary.
- Administer breathalyzer tests or observe urine collection as required by program policy and monitor clients returning from outside appointments.
- Maintain accuracy and completeness of all paperwork, ensuring compliance with confidentiality and privacy regulations.
Qualifications
- A high school diploma or GED is required.
- At least 2 years of experience in human services, particularly with individuals experiencing homelessness or substance use issues, is preferred.
- The ability and willingness to obtain the FDNY F-80 Certificate of Fitness within 90 days of hire is essential.
- Willingness to obtain CPR and NYC Food Handler’s certifications, as needed, is required.
- Flexibility to work varied shifts, including evenings and weekends, is necessary.
- Strong communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills are required.
- Reliability, organization, and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced setting are important.
- Approach sensitive situations with empathy, discretion, and professionalism.
