Shift Supervisor
About the role
The Shift Supervisor at Par Pacific is responsible for the safe, efficient, and environmentally compliant operation of the refinery during assigned shifts. They act as the primary authority on-site, leading operational activities, coordinating personnel, and making critical decisions.
Responsibilities
- Supervise all personnel and operators in their operating area to ensure safe and environmentally responsible operation at all times.
- Act to resolve process and equipment problems through a thorough understanding of Unit and equipment limits and basic knowledge of equipment and processes.
- Mentor, guide, and evaluate operators in the performance of their duties on a short and long-term basis.
- Organize work, position assignments, and scheduling to meet the crew’s shift targets. Review schedule for unfilled positions and resolve issues. Manage call outs for Operations & Maintenance teams.
- Complete team member time sheets based on weekly schedule. Post Volunteer OT sign-up sheet. Maintain OT distribution sheet. Complete Change of Status forms.
- Review and enforce compliance with all Company policies, rules, and procedures in relation to the Operations Department.
- Ensure production targets, quality standards, and regulatory requirements are met.
- Coordinate operation of refinery process units, oil movements, rail, dock, and asphalt areas.
- Review and follow Nightly Orders. Responsible to clarify any questions with appropriate parties.
- Issue permits when the Safety Supervisor is not available for writing Hot Work or Confined Space permits.
- Responsible for updates and submittal of Daily Reports and other miscellaneous paperwork (Dock Notices, MPL packets, Jet Rack Tank Switch forms, ULSD (Green Sheets), Gas Blending (Blue Sheets), and Dock Line Inspection forms (weekends/holidays)).
- Perform monthly Emergency Procedure Review/training.
- Review Work Orders for clarity and to determine priority. Distribute Work Orders to appropriate departments and notify Operations Superintendents (OS) or Maintenance Supervisors (MS) as necessary for follow-up.
- Respond to plant emergencies or non-routine matters which can include hazardous material spills, oil spills, fires, accident response, and so on. Notify the appropriate U.S. Oil personnel in a timely manner.
- Effectively communicate and support both internal (Company management, plant employees, maintenance/contractors, laboratory, engineering, inspection, and sales department) and external stakeholders (outside agencies such as USCG, fire/police, port security, plant neighbors, truck drivers, and other parties) as required in the performance of the role.
- Perform the duties of the On-Scene Commander or the Incident Commander when required.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Minimum of five (5) years of detailed knowledge, understanding, and experience of refinery processes, tank farm operations, and unit and equipment limits.
- Valid state driver’s license required. Must possess a valid driver’s license to operate company vehicles within the refinery and on public roads.
- Prior board Operator experience preferred.
- Strong work history.
- Effective leadership skills.
- Capable of working independently.
- Possess strong organizational skills and initiative to ensure job duties are performed successfully in a timely manner.
- Good verbal and written communication skills are required.
- Required to be certified to use a respirator and self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) for regular or emergency operations.
Physical Demands
- Must be available to work rotating, around the clock, 12-hour shifts and during off-hours to include emergencies and turnarounds.
- Must be able to access towers, tanks, vessels, loading racks, stairways, and general rough terrain in all weather conditions - day or night.

Hiring Range
The hiring range for this position is $114,498 - $171,746. The candidate selected will be placed according to his/her skills and qualifications.
