About the role

HF Sinclair is hiring for a Shift Supervisor at our Petrolia, Pennsylvania facility. The Shift Supervisor will oversee assigned on-shift represented employees, ensuring safety, environmental compliance, and production standards are met with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all aspects of plant operations for assigned area/shift.
  • Communicate effectively with hourly and management personnel to facilitate smooth operations and achieve organizational goals.
  • Foster collaboration and effective communication across teams.
  • Provide clear work direction aligned with organizational goals during all aspects of operation.
  • Promote safety, environmental compliance, operational efficiency, and a culture of accountability.
  • Make timely, informed decisions and resolve operational challenges.
  • Review product quality to ensure production of quality products, achieve operational targets, and prepare equipment for maintenance.
  • Coordinate troubleshooting to solve operating problems.
  • Ensure crew compliance with all Operational Excellence requirements (shift handover, operator rounds, MOC implementation, procedure compliance, housekeeping, etc.).
  • Initiate incident investigations including statement collection and data gathering.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop team members to maximize performance; work to increase bench strength of assigned crew.
  • Evaluate operator’s job performance providing consistent coaching and discipline when appropriate.
  • Drive change management and ensure smooth adoption of new processes.
  • Execute assigned accounting tasks to properly manage movement of oil through the plant.
  • Complete applicable procurement tasks to properly obtain required materials and supplies.
  • Ensure decision making is done at the right level in the organization.
  • Act as Incident Commander during a site emergency until additional personnel arrive and activate incident command as appropriate.
  • Perform special assignments or tasks as determined by management.

Requirements

  • 5+ years in a manufacturing environment.
  • Previous supervisory experience.
  • Emergency response experience.
  • Demonstrated technical knowledge/understanding of refinery/lubricants/specialties processes.
  • SAP experience.

A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent is required. Additional educational experience, degrees, and/or certifications in a relevant field are preferred.

  • Capable of optimizing production through identifying and solving problems related to the operation of assets.
  • Ability to handle high visibility projects, high-pressure situations, and long hours while maintaining a positive and constructive attitude.
  • Strong team player with effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate with all levels of staff including engineers, operators, shift, and maintenance personnel.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Will rotate with other supervisors to provide plant-wide 24/7 leadership to bargaining unit employees, ensuring work is performed safely, efficiently, and to quality standards.

Work Conditions

  • 24/7 rotating shift schedule including weekends and holidays.
  • Additional time requirements during scheduled/unscheduled outages and emergencies.
  • Work in both indoor office environments and outdoor settings, subject to all weather conditions.
  • Exposure to petroleum plant environment with chemicals, pressure vessels, tanks, rotating equipment, and confined spaces.
  • Occasional weekend and after-hour callouts.
  • Up to 5% travel.

Physical Requirements

  • Standing, walking, sitting, twisting, stooping, crouching, kneeling, talking, or hearing.
  • Making visual inspections and precise hand/finger movements.
  • Reaching or grasping, lifting and/or carrying up to 50 lbs, pushing and/or pulling 25 lbs.
  • Climbing up to 150 ft.
  • Ability to operate and drive all assigned company vehicles; valid state driver’s license and proof of insurance required.
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment (beards not permitted).
  • Strenuous physical activity.
