Shift Lead

About the role

This role serves as a key holder responsible for opening and closing the store in the absence of management, ensuring all systems are started, cash handling procedures are followed, and the store is prepared for daily operations. The position includes managing deliveries, handling returns, refunds, and cash drops, and maintaining a positive customer experience.

Responsibilities

• Opens and closes the store, including all required systems start-ups, cash handling, and ensuring the floor and stock room are ready for business.
• Opens the back door for deliveries and manages vendor deliveries.
• Completes product returns, order voids, customer refunds, cash drops to the safe, and provides change to cash registers.
• Models and delivers a distinctive and delightful customer experience by greeting customers, offering assistance, and resolving issues.
• Shares customer service best practices with team members, including interpersonal habits and Walgreens service traits.
• Holds store keys to open and close the store without management as necessary.
• Assists with and coaches team members on warehouse and vendor ordering processes, including reviewing and receiving orders.
• Registers all related sales on the assigned cash register, including records of scanning errors, price verifications, items not on file, price modifications, and voids.
• Assists management in reviewing order exceptions and reverse logistics (e.g., returns, empty packages).
• Assists in evaluating and developing displays, including promotional, seasonal, and sale merchandise, and completes resets and revisions.
• Maintains accurate inventory counts and ensures the accuracy of on-hand quantities in basic departments, stockroom, and overstock locations.
• Ensures compliance with the Outdate program and maintains accurate pricing, including daily price changes and proper signage.
• Assists with bookkeeping activities, including cash reports, cash counts, ledgers, and bill payments as requested.
• Assists with exterior and interior maintenance to ensure a clean, neat, and orderly store appearance, including requesting repairs as needed.
• Assists with the separation of food items and product placement according to policies (e.g., raw and frozen meats on bottom shelves) and stock rotation using the first in, first out method.
• Has working knowledge of store systems and equipment.
• Assists at the Pharmacy out window as requested.
• Ensures compliance with state and local laws regarding regulated products (e.g., alcoholic beverages and tobacco products).
• Performs bag checks of team members before they leave the store.
• Complies with all company policies and procedures and maintains respectful relationships with coworkers.
• Completes special assignments and other tasks as assigned.

Training & Personal Development

• Attends training and completes PPLs (Personal Productivity Learning) as requested by the manager.

Communications

• Serves as a liaison between management and non-management team members by communicating assigned tasks when store management is not present.
• Reports disciplinary issues and customer complaints to management.

Requirements

• One year of prior leadership, supervisory, or retail key holder work experience.
• Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English (except in Puerto Rico).

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of store inventory control.
• Consideration of employment for qualified applicants with arrest and conviction records.
• Obtains and maintains valid PTCB certification or pharmacy license as required by state.
