WYDR has four Shift Group Leaders working on a rotating schedule with teams A, B, C, and D. Shift Group Leaders may rotate teams every two or three years, or as required in special cases (business needs, skills alignments, etc.), to encourage a broad understanding of the team.
About the role
The Shift Group Leader is responsible for the safe and efficient production activities of the Wyandotte Dispersions & Resins (WYDR) facility in Michigan. Their focus will be on:
- Safely executing the daily production schedule
- Developing team performance over time for increasing levels of EHS and technical competency, contribution, and flexibility while respecting others and embracing diversity
Responsibilities
- Lead Chemical Plant Operators toward excellence in productivity, quality, safety, reliability, and EHS performance
- Utilize Mindset & Behaviors tools and principles to drive behaviors; accept responsibility for results
- Ensure the shift’s production schedule is executed as planned, adjusting operator assignments, monitoring progress, and addressing deviations to achieve high on-time performance
- Assess capabilities of Chemical Plant Operators, observe performance, provide training and coaching, and recognize effective practices
- Supervise daily operations, reinforce proper EHS and task behaviors, and develop individual and team accountability
- Support CHAMPS by performing frequent safety contacts and encouraging safety observations
- Participate in contractor in-plant planning and task execution, monitoring scope and EHS adherence
- Lead investigations for safety, quality, and process deviations using process trends and SOPs
- Participate in and lead root cause analysis, ensuring teams identify root causes and implement corrective actions
- Provide feedback to the Operations Manager and Maintenance team on plant and production issues, tracking cost, quality, scheduling, and EHS opportunities
- Serve as the single-point contact for the team on high-level scheduling, quality, and maintenance issues
- Manage development and document control aspects of quality systems procedures and work instructions
Requirements
- High School diploma or GED
- 5+ years of chemical plant experience as an operator, team leader, or equivalent
- Demonstrated excellence in chemical process knowledge and production processes
- Commitment to working safely and influencing others to do the same
- Strong communication skills within and outside the immediate team
- Leadership experience in a production environment
- Experience with processing unit startups, turnarounds, MOCs, HAZOPs, and PSSRs

Pay
This is a salaried position with straight overtime (OT).
