Major Responsibilities
- Assists in providing initial education of EMT-P students.
- Assists in the writing and planning of the education calendar annually.
- Assists in supervising/conducting monthly ECRN continuing education classes.
- Assists in the testing of personnel for system entry.
- Assists in the administration of ECRN and EMT exams in compliance with system policy.
- Assists in maintaining the simulation equipment.
- Assists to support public education programs on emergency medical systems related topics in response to community needs.
- Assists in facilitating the internship process for provisional ECRNs and paramedics in compliance with system policies.
- Assists with providing in-station continuing education classes for fire departments in GEA EMS system.
- Collaborates all above activities with the EMS System Coordinator and members of the Greater Elgin Area EMS System.
Participates in other activities that support the EMS System
- Maintains communication with paramedic crews to convey praise or opportunities for improvement.
- Assists in maintaining adequate supply of paramedic equipment and supplies, as well as telemetry communication logsheets.
- Assists with monitoring and insures maintenance of EMS radio to gain optimal communication with pre-hospital providers.
- Assists in providing EMS personnel with Instructor Session Evaluation Tools.
- Performs EMS vehicle inspections in coordination with IDPH Rules and Regulations.
Attends and participates in multiple EMS system and hospital meetings including Liaison
- Stays abreast of changes in federal, state and local statues, regulations and procedures and recommends necessary changes to insure compliance.
- Supports the trauma program as it relates to pre-hospital activities.
- Provides assistance to the Information Technologies Department with management of the EMS radios in the Emergency Department.
Education/Experience Required
- E.D. RN (1 year minimum) or EMT-P (3 years minimum).
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required
- Effective communication skills.
- Ability to promote good relationships between the hospital and the EMS providers.
- Ability to use A. V. equipment.
- Basic presentation skills.
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Products.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
- Ability to work some weekends and different shifts to accommodate classes or exams.
- Absolute on-call via pager or cell phone for problems or questions.
- Possible exposure to adverse or unpleasant patient conditions.
- Exposure to hazardous materials.
- Consistently travels to other hospital and area fire departments for classes and meetings.
- Ability to lift and move patients.
- Ability to work under stressful and in difficult situations.
- Ability to accompany EMS personnel on ambulance calls whenever necessary to evaluate patient care.
