Sheriff Deputy Cadet (Basic Peace Officer BPOC)

About the role

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office is seeking individuals to join its team as a SHERIFF DEPUTY CADET (Basic Peace Officer Course). This position is open to anyone not licensed by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) as a Peace Officer.

Responsibilities

• Completion of the Basic Peace Officer Course, which includes classroom and field training.
• Graduation from the course results in being sworn as a Probationary Patrol Deputy (PPD) and assignment to the Patrol Bureau for a minimum of two years.

Requirements

• Meet Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) background requirements.
• Be a U.S. citizen.
• Be at least 20.5 years old by the application date.
• Have a valid Texas Driver's License.
• Pass all phases of the application process.
• Have a minimum of 48 college credit hours with a 2.0 GPA or equivalent work or military experience.
• Have a high school diploma or GED and 18 months of steady work history, or 3 years of steady work history with military experience.
• Have a bachelor's degree or higher formal education.
• Have military experience with 730 retirement points or six years of service.

• Entry Level Deputy: Estimated $81,697 per year.
• Lateral Deputy Sheriff: Range of $78,457.60 - $84,032.00 per year.

Schedule

Full-time employment with a minimum two-year commitment after graduation.
