Shelter Medical Driver

About the role

At Chicanos Por La Causa, Inc. (CPLC), a nonprofit and one of the largest Hispanic Community Development Corporations in the United States, founded in 1967 and incorporated in 1969, you will help residents access essential medical appointments, pick up prescriptions, and provide transportation support. You will also assist with daily shelter operations, contributing to a team dedicated to serving individuals experiencing homelessness.

Responsibilities

• Provide safe, reliable, and efficient transportation for shelter residents, including those who are medically fragile or require assistance accessing essential services.
• Operate the shelter shuttle, transport residents to medical appointments, pick up prescriptions, and coordinate transportation related to shelter suspension periods.
• Support daily shelter operations by assisting with administrative tasks, resident supervision, and other duties as needed.
• Maintain a safe vehicle and keep accurate records.
• Communicate effectively with residents, medical personnel, and shelter management.

Requirements

• Valid Driver’s License and ability to obtain City Operators Permit.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• Two (2) progressive years of experience in general office procedures, customer service, and driving.
• Dependable, safety‑conscious, and comfortable working with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
• Ability to treat residents with dignity, patience, and respect, particularly those experiencing homelessness or facing medical challenges.
• Remain calm under pressure, follow established procedures, and communicate effectively.
• Take pride in maintaining a safe vehicle and keeping accurate records.
