Shelter Manager

Fluency in English and Spanish is required.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or bachelor’s/undergraduate degree from an accredited program/university, preferably in social work, psychology, criminal justice, sociology, or a related field (required)
• Graduate degree from an accredited program/university in a related field (preferred)
• First aid, CPR, and Emergency behavior intervention certifications
• Minimum of one (1) year of related experience and/or training (required)
• Two (2) or more years of related experience and/or training (preferred)

Responsibilities

• Meet all federal and state regulatory guidelines and standards applicable to the position
• Supervise development of shift schedules and staff assignments
• Monitor zone supervisors to ensure daily progress and activities are documented accurately and in compliance with agency policies
• Assist with orientation of new children and staff
• Provide input into development of treatment plans as appropriate
• Maintain knowledge of positive child management techniques, including verbal redirection, de-escalation, and containment
• Plan, organize, and supervise activities for children in accordance with the daily activity schedule
• Maintain a secure campus environment by conducting rounds and using proper radio communication protocols
• Serve as a positive role model for the service population
• Work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
• Implement Compass Connections safety protocols, including evacuating with children and staff in emergencies
• Maintain confidentiality regarding the service population and program operations
• Uphold Compass Connections professional and ethical standards, including respect for staff, children, and community members, and comply with dress code
• Supervise zone supervisors to ensure staffing levels meet each child’s physical, social, emotional, educational, and recreational needs
• Schedule appointments for children and follow up to ensure essential needs are met
• Develop and maintain effective working relationships with law enforcement, judicial officials, legal resources, medical professionals, and community resources
• Regularly observe and evaluate buildings, grounds, equipment, staff, children, vehicles, and other program resources; address issues as needed
• Frequently traverse different areas of the physical plant
• Communicate effectively in writing and verbally in English and Spanish
• Meet all pre-determined deadlines required by program supervisors and federal partners

Requirements

• Pass a pre-employment drug screen and random drug screens throughout employment
• Provide proof of work eligibility status upon request
• Pass pre-employment and biennial criminal background checks
• Demonstrate ability to:
  • Respond sensitively and competently to the service population’s cultural and socio-economic characteristics
  • Work collaboratively with staff, service providers, and professionals
  • Provide crisis intervention to maintain a safe environment
  • Work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining emotional control and professional composure
  • Maintain computer literacy required for the position
  • Work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team without intensive supervision
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of all Compass Connections policies and procedures
• Receive an annual Influenza vaccination or obtain an approved medical or religious exemption (required as a condition of employment)

Schedule

Overnight shift: 10:00 PM – 6:00 AM
