Sheet Metal Technician (with Mechanical Assembly expertise)
The Sheet Metal Fabricator will be responsible for performing non-routine assignments of substantial variety and complexity on project articles, components, and support structures and equipment. The Sheet Metal Technician (with Mechanical Assembly expertise) is responsible for assembling mechanical components and subassemblies according to engineering drawings, work requests, written and verbal instructions, and quality specifications and tolerances.
Primary Responsibilities
- Assembly & Fabrication
- Assemble mechanical parts, components, and systems using hand tools, power tools, and assembly fixtures.
- Interpret and follow blueprints, schematics, technical drawings, and direction from senior fabricators.
- Perform fitting, alignment, and installation of parts/hardware to ensure proper form, fit, and function.
- Quality Control
- Inspect parts and assemblies for defects or deviations from specifications.
- Report non-conformities to department lead prior to or during the assembly process.
- Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain records of materials used and time spent on tasks.
- Read and interpret drawings to properly complete material request documents to inventory control.
- Safety & Maintenance
- Follow all safety protocols and wear required PPE.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Perform basic maintenance on tools and equipment.
- Team Collaboration
- Communicate effectively with team members, leads, and supervisors.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and team meetings.
- High school diploma or GED required; technical training in mechanical assembly a plus.
- 3-5+ years of experience in mechanical assembly.
- Expertise in reading and interpreting mechanical drawings and schematics.
- Proficiency with hand and power tools.
- Strong attention to detail and quality.
- Basic math and measurement skills.
