About the role
This position fabricates, installs, and maintains sheet-metal equipment and fixtures (such as machine guards, grease pans, shelves, lockers, tanks, ventilators, chutes, ducts, metal roofing) to support our NASA customer on the Marshall Engineering Technicians and Trades Support contract (METTS).
Responsibilities
- Maintaining and repairing buildings, grounds, and related facilities
- Installing, repairing, rebuilding, and maintaining a wide variety of engines and mechanical equipment used in domestic, commercial, industrial, and agricultural activities
- Planning and laying out sheet-metal maintenance work from blueprints, models, or other specifications
- Setting up and operating sheet metal working machines
- Using hand tools for cutting, bending, forming, shaping, fitting, and assembling
- Installing sheet-metal articles as required
Requirements
- Rounded training and experience usually acquired through a formal apprenticeship or equivalent training and experience
- Experience using hand tools and sheet metal working machines
- Three (3) years' experience in a related field is desired
- Ability to lift up to twenty pounds on an occasional basis
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time
- May require walking, bending, climbing stairs, and navigating shop/machine work areas
- Must meet eligibility for a Public Trust background investigation for government-issued credentials and IT access
- Must pass a security background check per Redstone Arsenal/MSFC requirements
- Must provide two (2) forms of Federal I9 documents and a REAL ID-compliant identification (name must match on both forms, be original, and unexpired)
Work Environment
- Environmentally controlled, heated, and cooled shop area subject to machinery noise
- Occasional outdoor work
- This position may require occasional overtime and may include second or third shift support for 24/7 onsite or on-call support based on customer needs and contract requirements
Other
- All positions supporting the METTS III contract are contingent upon successful completion of NASA medical screenings at the beginning of employment and annually thereafter
