Sheet Metal Installer
Duties and Responsibilities
- Level I (Entry-Level): Assist experienced installers with basic fabrication, assembly, layout, cutting, bending, and sealing of ductwork under direct supervision; perform general site cleanup, material handling/loading/unloading, tool organization, and support tasks; participate in safety briefings and learn dry-side HVAC basics through on-the-job training.
- Level II (Mid-Level): Independently handle standard fabrication, installation, and repairs of sheet metal ductwork, fittings, and accessories per blueprints and SMACNA standards; perform quality checks, minor troubleshooting, duct sealing/hanging, and documentation; mentor Level I installers and coordinate with trades as needed.
- Level III (Senior-Level): Lead advanced installations, modifications, and repairs of complex sheet metal systems; conduct equipment startups, functional testing, system balancing, and final checkouts; troubleshoot complex issues with minimal supervision; provide coaching/mentoring to Levels I–II and act as lead on sections of projects.
- Level IV (Master/Lead-Level): Collaborate with General Foreman, Superintendent, and Project Manager to develop project-specific task plans, labor/material requirements, takeoffs, field surveys, and sequencing; oversee daily crew functions, scheduling, material control, inspections, weekly reports (safety/production), and startup coordination; proactively resolve issues, ensure compliance with standards, train/mentor crew, and drive efficiency/safety across jobsites.
Requirements/Qualifications
- Level I: 0–3 years in construction/labor or related field; no prior HVAC/sheet metal experience required—strong mechanical aptitude and eagerness to learn essential.
- Level II: 3–5 years in commercial sheet metal/HVAC installation/fabrication; demonstrated in-depth knowledge of dry-side applications.
- Level III: 5+ years with mastery-level knowledge; proven ability to handle complex tasks independently.
- Level IV: 5+ years (typically 8+ preferred) with full mastery; experience leading crews, planning, and project execution.
Physical Demands
- Ability to regularly lift/carry up to 50 lbs, climb ladders/scaffolding/stairs, work in confined spaces or at heights, bend/kneel/crouch, reach overhead, and use hand/power tools for extended periods; frequent standing, walking, manual dexterity, and physical stamina required.
Work Environment/Safety
- Primarily field-based in commercial/industrial settings (indoor/outdoor, varying weather, active sites); exposure to noise, dust, heights, sharp materials, mechanical hazards; must adhere to OSHA regulations, conduct hazard identification, and wear required PPE (hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, harnesses, steel-toed boots) at all times—safety is our top priority and non-negotiable.
