About the role
The Sheet Metal Fabrication Foreman manages the shearing and custom-bending lines that produce the protective enclosure skin of the modular building. This position coordinates machine schedules to supply both high-volume standard panels and unique custom interior and exterior profiles to downstream building lines. The Sheet Metal Fabrication Foreman is accountable for the precision shearing, cutting, bending, and pre-fabrication of both standard and custom interior and exterior building panels. This role ensures a continuous, defect-free supply of custom-formed sheet metal components is ready for downstream assembly in the workshop and construction yard.
Responsibilities
- Direct a specialized team of Sheet Metal Leadmen and machine operators across the manual and CNC hydraulic shear and press brake workstations.
- Program, set up, and operate shears and press brakes to accurately cut and bend heavy-gauge sheet metal into specified high-volume standard dimensions or unique, low-volume custom panel profiles.
- Optimize sheet layouts and blank shearing schedules according to engineering drawings, tracking sheet metal inventory and coil/plate utilization to minimize scrap material.
- Interface with the Design Support Specialist to immediately log any sheet metal gauge variances, bending radius adjustments, or flat-pattern drawing errors found during workshop fabrication.
Requirements
- 5+ years of hands-on experience running sheet metal fabrication lines, manual shears, and hydraulic press brakes.
- Expert proficiency in calculating sheet metal bend allowances, flat patterns, and blank lengths.
- Experience leading machine operators or sheet metal fabrication tradespeople.
- Direct a specialized team of Sheet Metal Leadmen and machine operators across the manual and CNC hydraulic shear and press brake workstations.
Preferred Experience
- Experience programming and adjusting modern multi-axis CNC press brake software controllers.
- Background fabricating specialized commercial wall siding systems or interlocking panel skins.
Success Measures
- Precision angular consistency and dimensional alignment across all custom-bent wall panels.
- High machine utilization rates coupled with minimized metal coil or plate scrap profiles.
- On-time supply of interior and exterior panel counts to the active assembly crews.
