Shared Classroom Teacher (Temp Maternity Leave)
About the role
The Shared Classroom Teacher supports students according to their learning and development needs, in collaboration with the grade-level teaching team and Family Coordinators. This role aligns with team agreements, planning, and the grade-level curriculum. The teacher accompanies students to practice, strengthen, and complete learning objectives, deepen understanding, and regain focus when needed.
The Shared Classroom is an organized and welcoming learning environment where students engage with defined purposes. It promotes autonomy, high-quality work, well-being, and personal responsibility.
Objective
Provide pedagogical support to students based on their learning and development needs, in collaboration with the grade-level teaching team and Family Coordinators. This role emphasizes differentiation, holistic development, well-being, and meaningful work.
Responsibilities
- Plan and develop pedagogical activities in collaboration with the grade-level teaching team and Family Coordinators, aligning with lesson plans and student needs.
- Accompany students in the Shared Classroom to complete assignments, practice, strengthen learning, improve performance, or advance beyond expectations.
- Implement differentiation strategies through individual or small-group work, supporting students who need additional help or greater challenges.
- Foster students' holistic development, including cognitive, communication, socio-emotional, and fine/gross motor skills.
- Support the grade-level curriculum and integrated projects, reinforcing learning in English, Mathematics, Science, and Spanish, as well as vocabulary development and thinking routines.
- Participate in planning Virtues activities, as needed, in collaboration with Family Coordinators and the grade-level teaching team.
- Observe and document student progress and needs, sharing relevant information with the teaching team and Family Coordinators to guide support.
- Lead the Shared Classroom’s work culture by promoting clear, visible agreements in both English and Spanish, in collaboration with other Shared Classroom Teachers.
- Maintain the Shared Classroom as an organized, pedagogically intentional space with materials, resources, and high-quality work samples tied to grade-level projects and learning.
- Support self-regulation and conflict resolution processes using the Calm Corner to foster emotional control, well-being, and readiness to return to learning.
- Ensure continuity of academic activities during a grade-level teacher’s absence by temporarily leading the class, following the established lesson plan.
- Actively participate in pedagogical meetings, planning sessions, training, and institutional activities, maintaining ongoing communication with the teaching team, Family Coordinators, and school leadership.
