About the role

Join our team of workforce production professionals making a difference. The Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation & Reentry (ADCRR) is searching for a sewing production shop specialist who strives at supervising a workforce. This position is responsible for the day-to-day operation of an Arizona Correctional Industries (ACI) production shop, including supervising an inmate workforce, ensuring proper inventory and utilization of raw materials, supplies, and equipment, and communicating operational data to management. The role enforces safety regulations, quality assurance programs, and daily sanitation and security practices in accordance with ADCRR policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Works with the supervisor in setting up daily work assignments and other daily production activities
• Maintains training records for all workforce participants
• Supervises the inmate workforce in the assigned manufacturing center
• Provides hands-on training for workforce participants on the ERP system, clerical work, reports, various production processes, and methods
• Provides oversight for all quality control stations to ensure all product produced meets the established quality guidelines
• Provides security by closely monitoring the workers' activities
• Ensures the safe operation of machinery utilized in the production process
• Monitors and controls inventory levels
• Utilizes best practice planning and layout of product components and required materials for the production and requisition of raw materials and supplies
• Communicates all material or equipment quality issues or delivery concerns to the purchasing department
• Reviews inmate hours and pay in ACIS for accuracy, makes any necessary changes
• Ensures all workforce participants are paid on time and correctly
• Attends staff trainings
• Drives on State business
• Performs other duties appropriate to the assignment

Requirements

• At least three (3) years of experience working in a fast-paced production environment
• Vocational courses at a post-secondary level in a related field with supervisory seminars and training (preferred)
• Knowledge of supervisory techniques for an assigned workforce
• Knowledge of standard production methods and techniques in the sewing industry
• Knowledge of equipment and materials utilized in the operation of a multi-line production sewing center
• Knowledge of divisional and departmental policies and procedures, including fire and safety standards and regulations
• Knowledge of security requirements and practices
• Skill in directing, supervising, and evaluating inmate workers
• Skill in the operation of a multi-line sewing shop, including the operations and maintenance of equipment and machinery
• Ability to interpret ADCRR policy and procedures
• Ability to supervise an inmate workforce
• Ability to communicate verbally and in writing
• Ability to operate a computer relating to the ERP system, Google Suite, and Microsoft Office
• Ability to work in a correctional environment

Pre-Employment Requirements

• Employment is contingent on passing a background investigation, drug test, and possibly a medical/physical examination
• If driving is an essential function of the job, must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver’s license, complete all required training, and pass all necessary driver’s license record checks
• Employees who drive on state business must maintain acceptable driving records and complete all required driver training
• An employee operating a personally owned vehicle on state business must maintain the statutorily required liability insurance
• Must take a Tuberculosis (TB) test during New Employee Orientation and annually thereafter
• Must successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify)

$49,200.00 annually
