Sewing Instructor

Position Overview

Administer instructional sewing lessons to students. Provide transparent feedback to students, HR, and their department manager throughout the training period.

Essential Job Functions (Introductory & Advanced)

• Refer to and follow the Sewing Operator training checklist to ensure students understand and perform each application.
  • Machine safety, maintenance and function
  • Material and garment handling and quality
  • Standard sewing applications used in retail apparel manufacturing
  • Produce garments utilizing organizational concepts for either a team-based TSS flow or individual piece/progressive bundle production environment

• Communicate and use computer programs related to National Safety apparel
• Instruct students using visual, auditory, and kinesthetic lessons to drive skill retention
• Maintain thorough records of training and performance reviews
• Administer formal and informal performance reviews, providing constructive feedback to HR and department managers
• Provide regular and detailed feedback regarding student performance
• Determine school capacity for onboarding new students
• Determine when students are not meeting requirements for advancement
• Provide feedback for suggested placement based on current openings

Essential Job Functions (Advanced)

• Support the development and training of Introductory Sewing Instructors
• Focus training on a smooth transition to team integration
• Establish best practices in the school and production to drive efficiency and organization
• Aid in determining construction steps for new items

Non-Essential Job Functions

• Administer lean and batch manufacturing support and training to existing teams in the production plant
• May be reassigned to assist other departments

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred
• Two years of industrial sewing, including full garment construction, required
• Efficiency-based sewing preferred
• Intermediate English skills in accordance with CEFR standards for languages
• Ability to communicate and understand familiar topics (sewing)
• Fundamental computer skills; navigating applications, sending and receiving emails, and basic file creation and management
