About the role
thyssenkrupp Polysius North America, Inc. is currently seeking a first shift setup welder in our Milwaukee, WI location.
Responsibilities
- Setup components by layout, fitting, welding, and cleaning to create finished weldments.
- This includes reading and interpretation of engineering drawings, tolerances, and welding symbols.
- Flux core and submerged arc welding.
- Performing self-inspection of your work.
- Using overhead and/or jib/pedestal cranes, forklifts, man-lifts, pneumatic tools, hydraulic tools, hand tools and torches as required.
- Performing all duties in a safe manner utilizing all required PPE being constantly aware of others in the work area.
- Interface effectively with coworkers in a manufacturing environment.
- Must be willing and able to work overtime as needed to meet customer commitments.
- Demonstrate a commitment to safety.
- Supervisory Responsibilities: This position will have no direct supervisory responsibilities.
Requirements
- High school degree or General education degree (GED); plus 2 years related experience and training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Technical or vocational schooling for blueprint reading weld symbols, geometric tolerances, inspection, layout, and welding.
- Knowledge of fabrication techniques, tools, and principals involved in flux core welding and submerged arc welding.
- Safety conscious; contributing to a safe working environment for oneself and all others.
- Punctual and having the ability to manage time independently with minimal supervision.
- Hands on and proactive problem-solving skills.
- The ability to work in welding fabrication environment (physical exertion and noise) and to work well with others in a team environment.
- Quality mindset.
Qualifications
- Required Education & Experience: High school degree or General education degree (GED); plus 2 years related experience and training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Required Knowledge & Skills: Technical or vocational schooling for blueprint reading weld symbols, geometric tolerances, inspection, layout, and welding. Knowledge of fabrication techniques, tools, and principals involved in flux core welding and submerged arc welding. Ability to read engineering drawings including geometric tolerances. Safety conscious; contributing to a safe working environment for oneself and all others. Punctual and having the ability to manage time independently with minimal supervision. Hands on and proactive problem-solving skills. The ability to work in welding fabrication environment (physical exertion and noise) and to work well with others in a team environment. Quality mindset.
- Preferred Qualifications: Previous welding certifications. Knowledge of non-destructive testing methods.
