Course description
Scientific Computing is a graduate course on research computing, covering techniques and methods for reliable and efficient computational programming. It includes best practices for developing software as it applies to scientific computations, common numerical techniques and packages, and aspects of high performance computing. Topics include modelling, floating point computations, molecular dynamics, fast Fourier transforms, solving partial differential equations, parallel programming concepts, and hybrid programming. Students are required to have some programming experience in a compiled language (Fortran, C, C++).
Description of duties
- Coordination of a graduate course
- Preparation and delivery of lectures in this course
- Supervision and training of teaching assistant(s) assigned to course, including overseeing the TAs DDAH forms
- Preparation, supervision and grading of tests and examinations in accordance with University regulations; submission of final grades
- Providing scheduled office hours for academic counseling of students
Qualifications
- Minimum Qualifications: PhD in Physics or a closely related field, at least 5 years of experience in scientific computing, demonstrated excellence in teaching at the University level
- Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to individuals with prior experience and demonstrated ability in teaching a similar course
Pay
Pay for half course, vacation pay included:
- Sessional Lecturer I: $9,997.48
- Sessional Lecturer I Long Term: $10,699.22
- Sessional Lecturer II: $10,669.22
- Sessional Lecturer II Long Term: $10,953.96
- Sessional Lecturer III: $10,953.96
- Sessional Lecturer III Long Term: $11,228.90
