About the Role
Travel within a 60-mile radius to provide roadside assistance and on-site repairs for tractors and trailers at customer locations, including shipping yards and parking lots. This is a safety-sensitive position.
Responsibilities
- Repair trucks and trailers, including tire repair/replacement, fuel filter replacement, and jump-starting trucks or refrigerated trailers.
- Replace batteries, alternators, trailer door seals, dolly legs, doors/hardware, wheel seals, and air brake systems.
- Repair coolant leaks, patch holes in trailer roofs/side panels/floors, and address electrical/lighting issues.
- Repair suspension and air ride systems, weld and repair components (e.g., mud flap brackets, ICC bumpers).
- Perform any other mechanic repairs feasible outside of a shop setting.
- Communicate with the Shop Manager and Road Breakdown team via cell phone or 2-way radio.
- Complete work orders, documenting parts used and labor times for repairs.
- Drive the service truck to/from job sites, ensuring it is fueled, maintained, and operational.
- Keep the service truck clean and inventory parts, restocking as needed.
- Carry necessary parts to complete on-site repairs.
- Perform additional duties as requested by the Shop Manager.
Requirements
- Mechanic aptitude and ability to operate shop tools and air tools.
- Experience operating a service truck.
- Ability to read shop service manuals and work independently.
- Capability to lift over 100 lbs.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of truck and trailer repair experience.
- Ability to read and write with good communication skills.
- Basic computer knowledge and data entry experience.
- Valid driver’s license and a good driving record.
