Service Technician I Trainee

About the role

Summit Utilities is seeking a Service Technician based in Divide, CO. The technician will maintain outstanding customer service while performing skilled work related to the installation, repair, and maintenance of natural gas distribution facilities. The role includes manual labor, handling customer requests, and representing the company in the community. Candidates must live within a 30‑minute drive of Divide, CO; relocation is not offered.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

• Initiate gas service, perform leak investigations, and make repairs.
• Locate gas lines and read gas meters.
• Conduct load surveys.
• Complete work order system documentation.
• Serve as First Responder in emergency situations.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

High school diploma or GED.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Proficient with personal computers and software including MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Valid state driver’s license with a good driving record; ability to operate company vehicles safely and in compliance with laws and policies.
• Knowledge of industry and company safety standards and regulations.
• Aptitude for basic mechanical tasks and proper tool use (e.g., pressure gauges, voltage meters, pipe locators, repair service lines, bar test, underground leak classification, gas system pressure monitoring).
• Effective oral and written communication skills; courteous and knowledgeable customer interaction in person and by telephone.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks, projects, or activities through completion and adapt to changing priorities.
• Capability to work independently and in a team‑based environment.
• Commitment to compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and company policies, including completion of required training.
• Adherence to Summit Utilities’ values, business practices, and drug/alcohol policy (subject to random testing).

Pay

Salary based on experience: $27.00 – $30.00 USD hourly.
