Responsibilities
- Assist Senior HVAC technicians
- Perform preventative maintenance contracts
- Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain light commercial HVAC equipment
- Perform scheduled maintenance such as replacing belts/filters and identify anomalies in HVAC equipment
- Log HVAC equipment details including refrigerant circuit, electrical circuit, and condition of equipment
- Perform brazing, leak checks, and evacuation processes
- Work with commercial DX equipment up to/over 25 tons, intake/exhaust fans, split systems, heat pumps, water source heat pumps, mini-splits, electric motor controls, and related systems
- Communicate effectively with Team Lead, Coordination Staff, Sales Staff, and customers
- Complete equipment log sheets for Project Managers and upload them into the database
- Complete assigned tasks with minimal call-backs
- Respond promptly to supervisor and dispatcher
- Complete all paperwork accurately and in a timely manner
- Adhere to basic safe work practices
- Maintain and care for company tools and vehicle
- Perform other duties as assigned by the company
Requirements
- Universal EPA certification
- Ability to read and understand mechanical drawings and equipment specifications
- Expertise in troubleshooting complex high and low-voltage electrical systems
- Proficient in reading wiring schematics
- Thorough understanding of large unitary packaged equipment over 25 tons, SWUD units, VRF, basic air-cooled chillers, semi-hermetic compressors, dehumidification equipment, complex specialty equipment, air handlers, simple boilers, cooling towers, water pumps, valves, actuators, and VFDs
- Proficient in troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining all components of the above equipment
- Complete understanding of sequence of operation and control strategies for HVAC equipment
- Thorough understanding of airflow for variable air volume systems, including duct design and control strategy
- Understanding of DDC control components and pneumatic systems
- Demonstrated experience with basic refrigerant cycle, heating components, and air distribution systems
- Ability to communicate complex technical issues to customers in laymen’s terms
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record
- Must pass a background check and drug test
Physical Demands
- Occasional sitting; frequent stooping, crouching, kneeling, balancing, and climbing
- Constant standing, walking, reaching, and gripping
- Vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
- Must be able to talk and hear
- Occasional lifting up to 50 lbs. (maximum solo lift) and constant lifting up to 25 lbs.
- Frequent material handling up to 50 lbs. and constant handling up to 25 lbs.
Work Environment
- Exposure to weather conditions, extreme heat or cold
- High noise intensity levels
- Atmospheric conditions, including exposure to electrical shock and toxic or caustic chemicals
- Wet and/or humid environments
- Vibration and proximity to moving mechanical parts
