Job Summary
The Shop Assistant is responsible for supporting the daily operations of the service shop by assisting technicians, maintaining a clean and organized workspace, and performing basic maintenance tasks. This role helps ensure equipment is prepared, serviced, and staged efficiently so technicians can focus on skilled repairs.
Responsibilities
- Assist with loading and unloading customer equipment
- Stage equipment for technicians with proper organization and readiness
- Clean equipment before and after service to maintain shop standards
- Keep work areas, yard, and shop clean and organized at all times
- Sharpen mower blades and cutting equipment as needed
- Perform routine maintenance such as: - Oil changes
- Spark plug replacement
- Air filter checks and replacement - Aid technicians with light mechanical work and simple repairs
- Perform basic equipment upkeep to ensure safe operation
- Organize and maintain tools, parts, and supplies
- Absorb parts handling, retrieval, and stocking
- Maintain shop cleanliness (sweeping, trash removal, organizing)
- Ensure all staging areas are orderly and efficient for workflow
- Aid Service Technicians and Service Writers with daily tasks
- Follow instructions and respond promptly to shop needs
- Support team efficiency by preparing equipment and work areas
Requirements
- High school or equivalent preferred
- Basic mechanical aptitude or willingness to learn
- Ability to use hand tools and shop equipment safely
- Strong attention to detail and organization
- Reliable, self-motivated, and able to work in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to lift and move equipment up to 50–70 lbs
- Ability to stand, bend, and work in indoor/outdoor shop conditions
- Manual dexterity for handling tools and equipment
- Combination of indoor shop and outdoor work
- Exposure to noise, dust, and mechanical equipment
- Fast-paced, team-oriented service environment
- Positive attitude and strong work ethic
- Willingness to learn and grow into a technician role
- Ability to follow safety procedures and shop guidelines
- Team player with good communication skills
