Job Description
The Service & Maintenance Technician is responsible for diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing complex mechanical, electrical, and electromechanical systems in a fast-paced, technology-driven environment. This role supports uptime, operational efficiency, and continuous improvement initiatives across advanced equipment and facilities.
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on mechanical, electrical, HVAC, and automated systems
- Troubleshoot and repair equipment failures using diagnostic tools and root-cause analysis
- Support installation, calibration, and commissioning of new equipment and systems
- Monitor system performance and recommend improvements to increase reliability and efficiency
- Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to resolve technical issues and implement process improvements
- Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements (OSHA, EPA, etc.)
- Support continuous improvement initiatives (SQCDP) to reduce downtime and operating costs
- Maintain spare parts inventory and coordinate with vendors for service and repairs
- Light Fabricating and/or machining fixturing
- Keep workspace clean (Shop/Trash cans/Fab room)
- Absorb and communicate technical information to non-technical audiences
- Assist in supporting the UTAC culture and values (Integrity, Expertise, and Innovation)
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Education and Skill Requirements:
- - Associate’s degree or technical certification in Mechanical or Electrical is preferred
- - 4+ years of hands-on maintenance experience in industrial, manufacturing, or high-tech environments
- - Knowledge of mechanical systems: couplings, alignments, vibration, pumps
- - Knowledge of electrical systems: VFD troubleshooting, AC motors, sensors, and control systems
- - Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and manuals
- - Experience with automated systems preferred
- - Proficiency in using diagnostic tools
- - Fluency in the English language is required
- - Strong problem solving, strategic thinking and analytical skills required
- - Able to relay technical information in a way your audience understands
- - Consistently exhibit appropriate attendance habits, working the hours necessary to perform the job
- - Proficient with all Microsoft Office applications and the ability to become proficient any systems that we use (Concur, Kronos, etc.)
- - Organize and maintain efficiency of personal work area
- - Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills
- - High attention to detail and safety awareness
- - Ability to work independently and in cross-functional teams
- - Strong communication and documentation skills
- - Adaptability in a fast-paced, high-tech environment
- - Experience in the automotive testing and validation industry preferred
- - Strong time management, multi-tasking, and organization skills
- - Able to function as part of a team, with members of varying job levels, and work cooperatively toward team goals
- - Consistently adhere to, and support all UTAC policies, procedures, and safety regulations
- - Self-starter, who can multi-task and possess strong communication skills
- - Valid driver’s license
Physical Requirements
- Exposure to industry accepted chemicals and noise
- Regularly required to stand, reach, bend and move about the facility
- Able to lift and/or move materials as needed in the performance of assigned duties
- Requirements include, but are not limited to stand, walk, sit, twist, bend, lift, see, speak, hear
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
- May require occasional travel (locally, nationally, internationally)
