Service Clerk - 401 Hayward

About the role

The Service Clerk position at Smart & Final, Hayward is a fast-paced role where you'll be interacting with the community and providing excellent customer service. This role is part of a larger team dedicated to offering fresh produce, quality meats, and groceries, along with over 3,000 club-sized items.

Responsibilities

• Collect and organize shopping carts within the store and retrieve carts from the parking lot and surrounding areas.
• Absorb and assist customers with the loading of merchandise into shopping carts.
• Provide assistance to customers' vehicles as needed.
• Check retail prices on shelves for check stand personnel.
• Pull merchandise from the check stand ("go backs") and return it to the proper shelf.
• Walk aisles and return misplaced items to their proper locations.
• Face merchandise on aisles as needed.
• Maintain cleanliness of the store entrance by sweeping, cleaning, and picking up trash.
• Maintain cleanliness of the store throughout the day by sweeping, mopping, and restocking restrooms as needed.

Requirements

• Ability to read and write English.
• Ability to interact with the general public and co-workers.
• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, product labels, product pricing codes, shelf tags, short correspondence, and memos.
• Ability to write simple correspondence.
• Ability to present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
• Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
• Regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 45 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 60 pounds.

Qualifications

• Basic PC/Outlook skills.
• Retail Management Certificate (preferred).

Pay

Starting rate: $18.50 per hour.
