Pay Rate: $15.00 per hour

About the role

As a Service Center Representative, you will perform routine clerical support while providing customer service to all residence hall students and customers, both in person and over the phone. You will also be responsible for maintaining the reception area and processing mail and packages. You will be considered the face of the residence halls while interacting with a wide range of students and customers.

You will learn “real world” work skills like time management, professional excellence, balancing of priorities, interpersonal communication, and working as a part of a diverse team. You will also gain a deep understanding of how an operation functions and how to build relationships while demonstrating outstanding customer service.

Responsibilities

  • Provide routine clerical support within a residence hall reception area
  • Answer phones, process mail and packages, assist in maintaining records and accounts
  • Greet visitors and clients
  • Provide in-house residence hall security and customer service through the day/night
  • Greet students and guests while checking identification
  • Report and respond to incidents within the residence halls

Requirements

  • Enrolled as a student at Michigan State University (during academic year)
  • Demonstrated commitment to outstanding customer service
  • Motivated self-starter and able to complete tasks in a timely manner with minimal supervision
  • Good communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Positive and respectful, especially when working with a diverse population
  • Dependable and reliable
  • Must be able to work daytime, nighttime, and weekend shifts (two shifts every week and two shifts every other weekend)
  • Must be able to work 15-20 hours a week in the fall semester and spring semester of 2026-2027

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to work nights and weekends
  • Willingness to work over semester breaks and holidays
  • Available to start as soon as possible

Schedule

  • 15-20 hours per week during the fall and spring semesters of 2026-2027
  • Must be available to work at least two weekday shifts per week and two weekend shifts every other weekend
  • May be required to work during sporting events, holidays, breaks, and weekends
  • Must be available to work the entire summer (May to August)
