About the role

Our Server team members are our brand ambassadors, ensuring guests experience a fun, relaxed and exceptional dining experience. Servers are expected to be approachable, friendly, hospitable and professional, ensuring JINYA’s service standards are properly executed. Servers are responsible for ensuring our guests receive the best dining experience through execution of steps of service. All servers work in unison contributing to the guests’ dining experience by providing amazing service and full menu knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Serve guests in a professional and positive manner, including but not limited to guest food and beverage orders, delivery of food and beverage, and ensuring an exceptional dining experience.
• Utilize JINYA’s steps of service, up-selling techniques, and proper menu knowledge to guide guests to daily specials, ensure dietary needs, and introduce our unique offering of ramen and tapas.
• Greet guests as they arrive, ensure proper seating arrangements, check reservations, or provide accurate wait-list times.
• Engage with guests to ensure a great dining experience.
• Embrace the JINYA culture and participate in collective company greetings, such as “Irasshai” and “Arigato.”
• Communicate clearly and concisely in a positive and professional manner with guests and team members, both front and back of house.
• Answer phone calls, take reservations, and assign guests to proper tables while maintaining consistent server rotation.
• Ensure cleanliness of the service station, including any area visible to guests upon seating.
• Support team members in front-of-house operations, such as refilling beverages, organizing table arrangements, table maintenance, polishing plates or glasses, resetting tables, or other tasks as needed.
• Respond to minor guest complaints and alert management of any major or critical guest or service concerns.
• Know restaurant information, such as hours of operation, menu details, allergens, table numbers, payment options, and other relevant operational details.
• Promote and execute JINYA’s core values of Teamwork, Hospitality, Authenticity, Creativity, and Integrity.
• Complete projects and tasks as requested by manager(s) or supervisor(s).

Requirements

• Minimum 2-3 years of server experience, preferably in a high-volume atmosphere.
• Outstanding and professional verbal and written communication skills; strong ability to multi-task.
• Positive attitude and ability to work well under pressure.
• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
• Ability to write simple correspondence.
• Willingness to follow instructions and ask questions for clarification if needed.
• Experience operating a POS system or Host System (e.g., OpenTable or similar).
• Ability to lead by example, inspire and motivate team spirit, and effectively present information in one-on-one or small group settings.
• Must be dependable, reliable, self-motivated, and self-initiated to ensure the restaurant is clean and presentable to guests.
• Experience working in a multi-cultural environment.
• Ability and willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
• Able to work in a standing position for long periods of time.
• Able to safely lift and maneuver through the restaurant with limited space.
• Ability to write and speak English fluently.
• Must have appropriate city, state, and federal certifications according to the restaurant’s location, including alcohol and food handling certificates.

Physical Demands

• Regularly required to talk and hear.
• Frequently required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and reach with hands and arms.
• Must be able to distinguish between sweet, savory, and other food flavors.
• Work in indoor and outdoor environments, which may be hot, humid, or wet.
• Able to reach, bend, and frequently lift/move up to 50 pounds.
• Occasionally ascend/descend ladders to reach overhead items.
