About the role

Harlem Children's Zone (HCZ), a world-renowned education and poverty-fighting organization based in New York, seeks an enthusiastic, dedicated, and mission-aligned Server for the Food Services Department. The ideal Server will bring a passion for HCZ's mission: breaking the cycle of intergenerational poverty through comprehensive, on-the-ground programming that builds opportunities for children and families.

Responsibilities

• Plating meals according to proper portion sizes
• Set-up, breakdown, and re-set of serving lines; and after-meal service
• Aid in stocking, as needed, all side stations and other designated areas with proper supplies and items prior to the start of each meal service
• Maintain sanitary conditions; implement and practice a "Clean as you Go" to keep areas clean and safe
• Practice safe, sanitary food handling and service
• Maintain and replenish salad bars during meal periods
• Maintain and replenish milk chest as needed
• Know the daily menu, salad bar, and possible allergens they may contain
• Inform students of the scheduled menu and new items while seeking ways to increase breakfast and lunch participation
• Collect student feedback on food quality, likes, and dislikes during non-service time
• Complete additional tasks requested by a management team
• Stand for long periods of time, bend, kneel, and reach to store/retrieve supplies
• Lift, carry, and push supplies and boxes up to 50 pounds

Requirements

• High School Diploma
• Valid DOH NYC Food Protection Certificate
• Good interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to work in a team environment and demonstrate excellent customer service
• Minimum of two years experience in the food service/customer service
• Must be able to understand verbal and written instructions
• Basic culinary knowledge of product identification, terminology, and production
• Ability to work well in stressful, high-pressure situations, including handling guest complaints and disputes and resolving them to satisfactory results
• Effective listening to, understanding, and clarifying concerns and issues raised by team members and guests

Pay

The compensation range for this position is $20-$21 per hour.

Monday-Friday: 10:00 AM-2:30 PM
