Serrano High School Career Technical Education (CTE)
About the Role
Serrano High School currently offers 10 Career and Technical Education (CTE) pathways, with 1,008 students enrolled in CTE courses. Of those, 428 students are dual-enrolled in two or more pathways. Out of 28 CTE courses, 16 are articulated with Victor Valley College, allowing students to earn college credit while still in high school. For the 2024-2025 school year, SHS awarded articulation credit to 522 students through Victor Valley Community College.
CTE programs are transitioning to an application-based enrollment system due to high demand. Students gain industry-level skills, preparing them for college and the workforce. This year, CTE students earned 391 industry-recognized credentials and certifications, along with 472 Precision YouScience industry certifications, totaling 836 credentials across all pathways.
Responsibilities & Impact
- Provide high-quality Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs that prepare students to be "College and Career Ready."
- Partner with community stakeholders, including businesses, parents, students, higher education institutions, and agencies to enhance student education.
- Facilitate work-based learning experiences, including job shadowing, internships, and in-district placements (732 students participated this year).
- Organize industry and educational field trips (87 this year, including visits to LifeStream, Cal Portland, General Atomics, and Victor Valley College).
- Host guest speakers from various industries (27 this year, including professionals from Cal Fire, Victorville Motors, and St. Mary’s).
- Support student participation in Career Technical Student Organizations (CTSOs) such as SkillsUSA and FFA, with many advancing to regional, state, and national competitions.
- Secure and manage grant funding to enhance CTE programs and facilities (e.g., $2.98 million invested since 2020, with an additional $1.76 million in grant funds secured for the next five years).
- Oversee the awarding of industry-recognized credentials, certifications, and college articulation credits.
Key Achievements
- 522 VVC articulation awards for college credit.
- 391 industry certifications and 472 Precision Exams, totaling 836 industry-recognized credentials.
- 109 mock interviews and 23 job internships.
- 87 industry and educational field trips.
- 89 students competed at Region SkillsUSA, 45 at State SkillsUSA, and 40 FFA competitors attended state leadership events.
- 487 students participated in a blood drive, collecting 398 usable units (81.75% turnout).
- 24 students sold 25 animals at the San Bernardino County Fair, earning $46,439.
- 553 outside teacher hours dedicated to work-based learning (WBL) and 1,826 hours for SkillsUSA & FFA.
Vision
The Snowline School District's Career Technical Education Department aims to provide high-quality CTE programs that prepare all students to be "College and Career Ready" by partnering with community stakeholders, including businesses, parents, students, higher education institutions, and other agencies.
