About the Role

This position functions in a supervisory capacity over the Security Sergeant and Security Officers on an assigned shift, assuming responsibility for the day-to-day operations of Security Operations. The role provides instruction and guidance to officers, prepares work schedules, and delivers on-the-job training.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates the activity and day-to-day operations of security staff on assigned shift.
  • Provides guidance and leadership to security staff regarding departmental issues, including enforcement of policies and procedures and security services provided.
  • Evaluates incidents of a serious security or sensitive nature, takes appropriate action, and advises security leadership of all notable incidents.
  • Completes security audits quarterly or as assigned in a timely manner according to guidelines.
  • Ensures all security reports are complete and correct within the established time frame.
  • Supports leadership in emergency response and related preparedness drills.
  • Maintains required annual certifications and completes training requirements within required time periods.
  • Oversees scheduling of personnel to avoid overtime not approved by security leadership.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
  • Remains knowledgeable on current federal, state, and local laws, accreditation standards, or regulatory agency requirements that apply to the assigned area of responsibility and ensures compliance.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (required).
  • 3 years of security, law enforcement, or military experience (required).
  • 1 year of supervisory experience in a security-related field (preferred).
  • Valid Louisiana driver’s license and clean DMV report (required).
  • Ability to successfully pass and maintain certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association, Crisis Prevention and Intervention (CPI), and firearms training (required).
  • Completion of Certified Police Officer of Standard Training Policy Academy (state or federal) or Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Certification (preferred).
  • Computer skills and dexterity for data entry and retrieval of information, including proficiency with Windows-style applications and keyboard.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals.
  • This position is considered Team A Essential Personnel and must report for duty in the event of a disaster.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule (e.g., 24/7, weekends, holidays, on-call availability).

Physical and Environmental Demands

  • Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Normal routine involves no exposure to blood, body fluid, or tissue, but exposure or potential for exposure may occur.
  • The incumbent works with patients who have known or suspected communicable diseases and may enter isolation rooms.
  • There may be an occupational risk for exposure to communicable diseases, hazardous medications, or hazardous waste within the healthcare environment.
