Sergeant | Corrections and Custody Officer 3
About the role
The Sergeant (Corrections & Custody Officer 3) position is a full-time permanent role located at the Washington Corrections Center for Women in Gig Harbor, WA. This position is represented by the Teamsters 117 bargaining unit and is open to two candidates.
Responsibilities
- Supervise Corrections and Custody Officers (COs)
- Assign and review work of staff
- Provide on-the-job training to in-training COs
- Evaluate employee performance and prepare performance appraisals
- Maintain custody and control of residents
- Manage resident activities and movement
- Support the Reentry Division’s mission
- Ensure facility safety and security
- Respond to resident complaints and inquiries
- Carry out search and inspection duties
- Communicate with supervisors and staff
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Three years’ experience as a correctional officer in adult corrections OR two years’ experience as a correctional officer in adult corrections AND successful completion of 30 semester or 45 quarter hours of accredited college-level course work
- Knowledge, skills, and abilities including observation, technology utilization, stress tolerance, professional standards, adaptability, embracing diversity and cultural differences, treating others with respect and courtesy, written and oral communication, and demonstrated ability to recall detailed instructions and maintain attention and concentration.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supervising staff in a correctional environment
