About the role
HRA’s Office of Police Operations (OPO) in the division of Security Services is recruiting for one (1) Supervising Special Officer I to function as the Sergeant who will:
Responsibilities
- Ensure direction and guidance of the supervision of the physical safety of staff and customers assigned to all HRA locations within the 5 boroughs of the City of New York and may be assigned to any tour.
- Ensure that the highest level of security is provided at an assigned HRA location. Prepare schedules; assign contract guards’ staff; instruct the guards in their duties and responsibilities.
- Oversee and monitor guards on an ongoing basis; and evaluate the performance of the guards.
- Investigate and prepare reports on security incidents or conditions which jeopardize the security and safety of the facility occupants as well as develop actions to deal with incidents and/or conditions.
Requirements
- A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a state's department of education or a recognized accrediting organization and one year of full-time satisfactory experience in the field of law enforcement, protection or security.
- One year of experience as a Supervising Special Officer-Assignment Level I; or in addition to meeting the minimum qualification requirements for Assignment Level I above, one year of experience in the field of law enforcement, protection or security in a supervisory capacity.
- Two years of experience as a Supervising Special Officer; or in addition to meeting the minimum qualification requirements for Assignment Level I above, two additional years of full-time experience in the field of law enforcement, protection or security, at least one year of which must have been in a supervisory or administrative capacity.
Qualifications
Individuals serving in this title are designated as Peace Officers by the New York State Criminal Procedure Law. Therefore, all candidates must be qualified to serve as Peace Officers. Incumbents must satisfy the training requirements established by the State of New York for Peace Officers and obtain certification. Once obtained, this certification must be maintained for the duration of employment.
