About the role
Under general supervision of the Shift Lieutenant, you will supervise subordinate security staff assigned to housing units and oversee the custody and control of all inmates in those units.
Responsibilities
- Conduct routine inspections of living areas for compliance with security, safety, and sanitation standards.
- Investigate alleged misconduct by inmates and security personnel within your area of responsibility.
- Assist in formal and informal inmate counts.
- Supervise job performance, conduct, and appearance of assigned security personnel; prepare employee evaluations.
- Counsel, recommend disciplinary action, and train subordinate staff to required performance standards.
- Prepare reports as needed or required.
- Perform duties of the Shift Lieutenant when necessary.
- Complete eight (8) weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Eighteen (18) months of experience in correctional, security, military, or police work.
- A degree in criminal justice or a related field may substitute for half of the required experience.
- Must be certified by the SCDC Training Academy and complete the basic supervisory course within six (6) months of hire.
