About the role

Under the general supervision of the Shift Lieutenant, you will oversee subordinate security staff assigned to housing units and ensure the supervision, custody, and control of all inmates within those units.

Responsibilities

• Make routine inspections of living areas for compliance with security, safety, and sanitation standards.
• Conduct investigations of alleged misconduct involving inmates and security personnel in your area of responsibility.
• Assist in conducting formal and informal inmate counts.
• Supervise the job performance, conduct, and appearance of assigned security personnel and prepare employee evaluations.
• Counsel, recommend disciplinary action, and train subordinate staff to meet required performance standards.
• Prepare reports as needed or required.
• Successfully complete eight (8) weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.

Requirements

• High school diploma.
• Eighteen (18) months of experience in correctional, security, military, or police work.
• A degree in criminal justice or a related field may substitute for half of the required experience.
• Must be certified by the SCDC Training Academy.
• Must successfully complete the basic supervisory course within six (6) months of entry into the position.
