Sergeant (#011835) Goodman Correctional Inst, Columbia (RICHLAND) Level 1

Responsibilities

• Assist Contraband Sergeant in investigations-internal affairs, SLED and Division of Security.
• Assist Contraband Sergeant with offender drug testing.
• Record all contraband and maintain all forms and drug testing supplies.
• Test illegal drugs as to substance and identification - VALTOX test - NK test.
• Maintain contraband drop box.
• Drug test YOIP releases, random drug screen, pre-release offenders.
• Destroy illegal drugs according to SCDC policy.
• Prepare all monthly, quarterly drug and contraband reports.
• Act as first responder for Goodman inmate apprehension.
• Serve illegal paperwork as it comes through the Warden's Office.
• Give all contraband money to the business office.
• Successfully complete eight (8) weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.

Requirements

• High school diploma and relevant experience (State of South Carolina minimum). A bachelor’s degree in a related field may substitute for the required experience.
• High school diploma and eighteen (18) months experience in correctional, security, military, or police work (SCDC minimum). A degree in criminal justice or a related degree may substitute for half of the required experience.
• Must be certified by the SCDC training academy and successfully complete the basic supervisory course within six (6) months of entry into the position.
