About the role

Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking a Principal or Sr. Principal Mechanical Engineer to join our team in Roy, UT, supporting the Sentinel (GBSD) program on the Command Systems Hardware Design Integration team. This role contributes to the Air Force’s sustainment, development, production, and deployment of hardware and system modifications for Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) Ground and Airborne Launch Control Systems, Launch Facilities, and associated infrastructure. The position may be filled at a higher level based on qualifications.

Responsibilities

  • Join a team of Mechanical, Electrical, and Hardware Integration engineers to design hardware systems and components.
  • Apply ASME standard processes and procedures to identify, design, and procure electrical and mechanical hardware.
  • Support design of integrated assemblies in accordance with decomposed requirements, compliance documents, and architecture diagrams to support the Sentinel critical design review campaign.
  • Assist in trade studies, Analysis of Alternatives, and create design artifacts including 3-dimensional models and product data packages using Siemens-based Product Lifecycle Management (CPLM) and modeling (NX) tools.
  • Operate in and capture inputs from a multi-disciplinary engineering environment consisting of Systems, Software, Design, Compliance, and Hardware engineers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university with 5 years of related experience; or a master’s degree with 3 years of related experience. Sr. Principal level requires 8 years with a bachelor's or 6 years with a master's.
  • U.S. citizenship with an active U.S. Government Secret Security Clearance, current and within scope, with an investigation date within the last 6 years.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) approval within a reasonable period.
  • Design experience performing CAD modeling with tools such as Siemens NX or similar.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Engineering Scheduling tools.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience resolving issues and providing technical support.
  • Capable of working with minimal direction and in team environments.
  • Experience deriving hardware-level requirements from interface, compliance, and performance requirements.
  • Experience designing and generating control drawings and assemblies of systems using commercially-sourced hardware components.
  • Experience developing hardware design materials in support of program design reviews for review with team technical leads and program stakeholders.
  • Experience conducting design reviews as the design author and briefing solution designs to program leadership and stakeholders for release into product baseline.
  • Understanding of structural analysis concerns as applied to designing mechanical systems.
  • TeamCenter CPLM experience.

Schedule

This position follows a 9/80 work schedule, allowing employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.

Pay

Primary Level Salary Range: $89,400.00 - $134,200.00

Secondary Level Salary Range: $117,700.00 - $167,500.00

The salary range represents a general guideline; actual offers consider the scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s experience, education, skills, and current market conditions. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses reward individual contributions and allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
