Sensitive Patient Exam Curriculum Participant (SPEC Patient - per diem ) - Bellevue/North Pittsburgh

We are seeking a Sensitive Patient Exam Curriculum Participant (SPEC) to train as an individual who will accurately portray the role of a patient in a controlled environment. SPECs must portray specific situations consistently for each student encounter, including sensitive subject matter. This role involves providing constructive feedback, evaluating student performance using standardized tools, and mentoring entry-level SPECs.

Responsibilities

  • Provide informative and accurate feedback to medical students while acting as a patient during sensitive physical examinations.
  • Interact with medical students in a standardized manner during simulated patient history and/or medical examinations.
  • Permit physical examinations while wearing a hospital gown and being observed.
  • Accurately remember encounters with students to rate their behaviors.
  • Train and mentor entry-level SPECs.
  • Maintain confidentiality of cases, student behaviors, and evaluations.
  • Comply with HIPAA (patient privacy) and FERPA (student privacy) regulations.
  • Adhere to State, Federal, and OSHA safety protocols at the clinic level.
  • Accept additional duties as assigned to meet department needs.
  • Must be willing to participate in Breast, GYN, or Prostate examinations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred, especially in health science.
  • Ability to maintain character and permit examinations that may be performed awkwardly.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including tact and diplomacy.
  • Ability to objectively evaluate student behaviors during and after mock exams.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including scheduled and on-call availability.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Open-minded, patient, creative, enthusiastic, and team-oriented.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and respectfully with others in an equal opportunity workplace.
  • Ability to report to work as scheduled and follow directives from managers and supervisors.

Schedule

  • Per diem position requiring availability on Saturdays from 7 AM – 2:30 PM.
  • Work location: Health clinic in the Bellevue/North Pittsburgh area.
