About the role

Join us as a Senior Workers Compensation Claims Examiner to play your part in transforming the way we help customers manage risk. This role focuses on Workers Compensation within the Federal jurisdiction, offering opportunities to develop expertise in handling and investigating Defense Base Act claims.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize investigation, claim handling, litigation, and negotiation skills to ensure timely, cost-effective claim settlements and protect recovery rights when applicable.
  • Provide prompt, effective customer service to differentiate AIG from competitors.
  • Proactively identify and review suspect/fraudulent claims on a consistent basis, adhering to clear guidelines.
  • Regularly engage with internal stakeholders, brokers, medical experts, clients' lawyers, injured workers, or their legal representatives.
  • Build effective relationships with internal and external customers, serving as a point of referral.
  • Support Team Managers by assisting with monitoring market/industry practices, providing mentoring, and technical guidance to Claim Representatives.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in underwriting to help improve our products.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of legal/regulatory and litigation/procedural requirements for Workers Compensation claims.
  • Specialist knowledge of Defense Base Act claims is preferred.
  • Proven experience in settlement evaluation and negotiation.
  • Policy language skills enabling accurate and consistent policy wording interpretation.
  • Lateral thinking and the ability to problem-solve and develop new ideas to improve working practices.
  • Strong communication, time management, administrative, and report-writing skills.

  • Experience in Workers Compensation claims handling.
  • Understanding of legal and regulatory frameworks related to Workers Compensation.
  • Knowledge of Defense Base Act claims.

For positions based in Illinois, the base salary range is $73,000-$96,000. Compensation for this position includes base salary and eligibility for a bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable incentive plan.
