Responsibilities
- Develop the requirements and manage the Tier 1 suppliers for different harnesses and jumpers.
- Work with other groups on determining interface information needed to complete the electrical system design.
- Report to the Head of Electrical and be responsible for driving the development of the electrical system requirements for all of the Slate battery electric vehicles.
- Develop unique solutions for various harnesses for a non-traditional vehicle.
- Design and develop the electrical system for fully electric vehicles based on requirements from the interconnected electrical components.
- Work with the engineering design team in setting design direction and leading development on system features, descriptions with electrical module owners.
- Lead and/or participate in vehicle level technical design reviews with all other groups and suppliers for all Vehicle Subsystems.
- Aid in the definition of all In-line connector selections, the circuit definitions, and sizing as it relates to component and system loads.
- Track Open Issues, communicate issues to all groups and set up meetings as required to close all issues. Escalate major issues immediately to leadership.
- Create and maintain electrical system level DFMEA and DVP&R where applicable.
- Support electrical wire-harness and component system functions, electrical test lines at vehicle final assembly plant.
- Test, rework, and debug wiring systems on prototype & pre-production vehicles.
- Assure Piece Cost Targets, ED&D Budget, Timing, Weight and Quality intent is achieved.
- Develop and document test plans for the wiring harnesses.
Qualifications
- Bachelor Degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering or equivalent from an ABET accredited or equivalent program is preferred.
- 8+ years relevant experience.
- Hands on / detail oriented.
- Comfortable working with low voltage and high voltage systems.
- Excellent communication Team building and relationship building skills.
- Specific experience including Low voltage components such as circuit breakers, relays, wiring, etc., High voltage components such as DCDC, motor and inverter, battery, and on-board charger, etc.
- Experience with harness development tools such as Capital and Zuken.
- Knowledge of CAN, LIN, Ethernet, LVDS, and A2B protocol physical topology requirements.
- 8D, five whys, and fishbone process to diagnose complex issues.
- PPAP experience developing and creating Design records, FMEA’s, Control Plans, etc.
- Industry standards such as FMVSSS, NHTSA, DOT, USCAR, SAE, NEC, etc.
