Savannah River Mission Completion (SRMC) is seeking a Senior Welding Construction Field Engineer I, II, or III to be based in Aiken, SC on the Savannah River Site (SRS).

About the Role

The Senior Welding Construction Engineer provides engineering support for facility/project-related construction activities. Responsibilities span from conception through implementation to turnover, ensuring safe execution within schedule and budget. The role involves resolving design problems, recommending design changes, and coordinating with various teams to support construction efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Provide knowledgeable support and coordination of design/construction to resolve design problems of varying complexity; recommend design change options and review design changes.
  • Perform material takeoff and develop Bills of Material (BOM) or Material Service Requests (MSR) based on issued design; track materials to ensure timely receipt and compliance with design requirements.
  • Perform/support walk-downs with applicable personnel to formulate work package planning and hazard identification.
  • Perform comprehensive hazard analysis and develop plans per site procedural requirements; contribute to hazard mitigation plans.
  • Support design planning meetings and walk-downs; provide conceptual design and constructability reviews; facilitate timely issue of design packages and changes.
  • Contribute to construction schedule development (e.g., scope, material quantities, testing).
  • Develop Work Packages per site procedural requirements; expedite approvals and assemble packages with instructions, permits, documents, and supporting information; make field changes as needed.
  • Maintain current status of assigned construction work packages.
  • Participate in pre-job briefs to ensure workers and support organizations understand scope, hazards, mitigations, and expectations; address questions or concerns.
  • Generate field fabrication sketches, weld maps, as-builts, etc.
  • Monitor field activities and provide support to crafts during implementation; resolve issues through direct interface with workers, supervision, and coordination with support organizations; provide direction as needed.
  • Perform field inspection support to ensure compliance with design specifications, procedures, guides, and National Codes and Standards.
  • Coordinate with the Quality Organization for independent surveillance and inspection.
  • Ensure design or code-required Non-Destructive Examination (NDE) is complete and acceptable; verify proper use and documentation of Measurement & Test Equipment (M&TE).
  • Monitor acceptance testing to ensure design and code compliance; document results.
  • Review work packages for closure, ensuring all work is signed off as complete and acceptable; route for final closure review.
  • Develop construction scope Turnover Packages per applicable procedures; conduct/support turnover walk-downs to ensure design compliance; route packages for storage/archive.
  • Assist with design/verification of temporary construction structures (e.g., huts, support structures) and/or commodities (e.g., unique tools, miscellaneous equipment) as requested.

Senior Construction Field Engineer II Additional Responsibilities

  • Represent Construction in project planning meetings, providing recommendations and guidance.
  • Provide senior-level support for design/construction coordination to resolve intermediate to advanced complexity design problems.
  • Influence the expedition of work package approvals; mentor less experienced Construction Engineers.

Senior Construction Field Engineer III Additional Responsibilities

  • Manage and coordinate with field engineering staff to resolve problems and support project management needs.
  • Represent Construction in project planning or site-related meetings, providing recommendations and influencing outcomes.
  • Provide subject matter expert support for resolving high-complexity design problems; review/approve design changes.
  • Monitor compliance with policies, procedures, and regulations; recommend improvements.
  • Develop/design and verify temporary construction structures and/or commodities.
  • May serve as Area Lead Construction Discipline Engineer (CDE) or discipline Subject Matter Expert (SME).

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical/science discipline or High School Diploma/GED with relevant construction engineering or practical construction experience in welding.
  • Relevant experience in welding construction field engineering.
  • Preferred: Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or Associate’s degree.

Candidate(s) selected will be offered a position level (I, II, or III) commensurate with their experience and qualifications.

About SRMC

Savannah River Mission Completion (SRMC), a prime contractor for the U.S. Department of Energy, manages the Liquid Waste operations contract at the Savannah River Site in Aiken, South Carolina. SRMC is a limited liability company formed by BWXT, Amentum, and Fluor, responsible for the closure of waste tanks, operation of the Defense Waste Processing Facility, tank farm operations, and associated production and disposal facilities.

Pay

Annual salary range: $76,700 – $170,100. Exceptions to this range may be applied on a case-by-case basis considering education, experience, and organizational needs.
