Job Responsibilities
- Understand requirements, possess appropriate skills, and perform various welding processes in all positions on products of all applicable metals
- Weld with a high degree of proficiency, experience and knowledge, able to meet various codes and specifications including AWS and ASME
- Know, qualify and perform the following: MIG: carbon steels, stainless steel, and aluminum and combination; TIG: carbon steels, stainless steel, aluminum, and combination; Submerge ARC: carbon steels, stainless steel, and combination; Flux Core: carbon steels, stainless steel, and combination
- Perform material preparation, open set-up and fit to meet process requirements proficiently in all required operations
- Read blueprints, weld symbols and NDE symbols and interpret acceptance criteria
- Coincide effectively with other departments such as Engineering, Purchasing, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, and Sales
- Rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish assigned goals
- Accurately perform visual inspection of weldments to confirm compliance to various codes and standards
- Perform daily and weekly maintenance on all equipment
- Share technical requirements, techniques, safety information, etc. with peers
- May perform aspects of inspection: in-process, final and source; allocate partial points - 3 points in-process - 3 points final - 4 points source
- Maintain a safe work environment by adhering to all safety procedures including those which govern the handling of materials, chemicals, tools, and equipment (WHMIS)
- Follow written work instructions
- Work under minimal supervision on duties and tasks that are frequently non-routine, adapting procedures, techniques, tools, materials and/or equipment to meet special needs
- Be a self-starter and demonstrate good decision making ability
- Resolve most questions and problems, referring only the most complex issues to higher levels
- Proper use of required PPE
- Serve as a resource to others in the resolution of complex problems and issues
- May assist in orienting and training lower level employees
- May participate in LEAN Events, “Six S” activities, action teams etc.
- Support, communicate, reinforce and defend the mission, values and culture of the organization
- High school diploma or GED
- 5+ years of welding experience
- Proficiency with MIG and TIG welding
- Experience interpreting sketches, blueprints and weld symbols
- Experience cutting, grinding, and cleaning metal surfaces
- Understanding of metallurgy, metal tolerances and types of metal (e.g., steel, aluminum)
- Attention to detail
- Ability to resolve issues with equipment or materials
- Ability to walk, sit, stand, stoop, climb, kneel, and bend for extended periods of time
- Ability to lift heavy materials
- Ability to access and work within restricted spaces in and around vehicles when necessary
